On March 8, 2025, we held an international workshop and an alumni reunion for Optical Functional Materials Laboratory. Graduates, former postdoctoral researchers, current laboratory members, and faculty gathered in a warm and friendly atmosphere, deepening their connections with one another.
This international workshop and alumni reunion provided a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the strong bonds within the Laboratory and to establish new connections. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all participants and to everyone who contributed to the success of this event.
Moving forward, we hope to continue fostering such opportunities for?interaction and exchange?and strengthening our laboratory’s network while supporting the ongoing success of our alumni.
We will announce details of the next alumni reunion once they are finalized. We look forward to your participation and appreciate your continued support and cooperation.

The Optical Functional Materials Laboratory at Toyota Technological Institute has been dedicated to research and development in optical materials and high-performance fiber devices since its establishment in 2002, contributing to new technologies and materials utilizing light. The laboratory pursues a wide range of research topics, spanning fundamental studies to applied development, to meet diverse needs in academia and industry.
This international workshop commemorates the 23rd anniversary of the establishment of the Optical Functional Materials Laboratory. It will welcome researchers, alumni, and professionals from related academic and industrial fields who have been associated with the laboratory over the years. The workshop’s primary aim is to share the latest research achievements in optical materials and related technologies, reflect on the knowledge and outcomes developed thus far, and discuss new research directions for the future.
The workshop will feature presentations on a broad range of topics, including the development of optical materials, applications of high-performance fiber devices, the elucidation of nonlinear optical phenomena, and applications in optical communication and sensor technologies.
Furthermore, the workshop sessions will promote active discussions among participants and facilitate the exchange of ideas from interdisciplinary perspectives. By providing networking opportunities, the workshop seeks to foster new interactions that may lead to future collaborations and technological innovations.
Exploring the infinite potential of light, this workshop aims to help pave the way for a new future through the fusion of optical and materials science. We hope it will be a meaningful and inspiring opportunity for all participants.
